Today, David and Joanne’s son James manages the day-to-day running of the business, overseeing everything from sales to HR. A keen businessman from a young age, he honed his skills at the Peter Jones Enterprise Academy and has been working full-time at Drivelodge since 2011.

Our Story
Drivelodge Motorhomes began in the heart of Yorkshire, in David Waring's father's textile mill in Skipton. What started as a hobby, building motorhomes for family adventures, soon became something much more.
In the early days, the clatter of looms filled one side of the mill, while on the other, David crafted his unique motorhomes. By the mid-nineties, the looms had fallen quiet, and Drivelodge had expanded to fill the whole space.
Family has always been at the heart of Drivelodge. David and Joanne’s children grew up surrounded by motorhomes, enjoying family holidays in their own custom-built vehicles.
Sons James and Joseph later joined the family business, each bringing their own strengths — James handling the commercial side of the business, while Joseph shares his father's passion for hands-on craftsmanship.
Under their stewardship, Drivelodge evolved, focusing on crafting high-quality high-top and elevating roofs. In 2020, increased demand led them to move to a purpose-built facility in Crosshills, streamlining production and allowing for further growth. Today, Drivelodge employs 25-30 staff across various departments, still designing and manufacturing all of our roofs and accessories in-house.
David and Joanne continue to be a regular presence, offering guidance and support, with no plans to retire anytime soon — although if you visit, don’t be surprised if they’re away for the week in their latest custom-built creation.

Meet the team behind Drivelodge
James
David
David founded the company with wife Joanne after converting his own campervan and subsequently selling it. He remains very hands-on, personally designing the roofs, and still enjoys holidays in his self-converted campervan.
Joanne
Joanne previously managed all the administration and accounts, providing a vital backbone for the growing business. She now enjoys a less demanding role but is always on hand — offering her invaluable experience and support to the team.
Joseph
Joseph joined the family business straight from school, following in his father David's footsteps with a hands-on approach to the manufacturing process and a keen eye for quality. He divides his time between new product development and workshop duties.
Glyn
Glyn, our Workshop Manager, joined us in 2021 and quickly became part of the family. With 22 years of service in the RAF behind him, he ensures smooth workshop operations and is being mentored by David in new product development.
Ian
A long-time friend of David’s, Ian joined the company after returning from Dubai. His extensive experience in almost every department, from fibreglassing to fitting, provides invaluable product knowledge. He installs roofs, assists fitters with queries, and trains newly approved fitters.
